Fit for Purpose Management Structure
A medium-sized, multi-site charity, providing direct services to vulnerable people within the M25 approached Real People following a word of mouth recommendation. The orgainisation's HR policies were inconsistent with legislation and absence levels were high. This had more than just financial costs; morale was low and service delivery was suffering.
Real People worked directly with the CEO and Operations Manager designing a fit for purpose management structure. An implementation plan was developed to carry out the process of reorganisation, redundancy and redeployment transparently, fairly and legally. We helped our client ensure highly competent managers filled all key posts.
Recruitment, selection and performance management were improved when Real People worked with Senior Managers to devise competency frameworks and with the implementation of 360° feedback. This allowed for upward feedback from staff to managers as well as from peers, clients, internal and external customers.
Absence management improved with a strategy focused on promoting staff well being while tackling absence issues.
Combining a set of core policies with intensive training, we gave managers tools and techniques empowering them to deal with employees in a professional, yet tougher way.
After twelve months, our client demonstrated:
- A drop in sickness absence lost time rate from 8.5% to 4% and still declining
- The vacancy rate reduced from 14% of vacant posts to 2%; they reached a broader, more talented pool of applicants
- A number of staff with hard-core problems were set free with no pay outs and no Employment Tribunal claims
- A year end staff survey showed a level of employee engagement the client couldn’t have previously realised
- There was a significant reduction in client complaints.
