Helping to recruit new HR staff with the potential for growth

Quite a number of our clients are big enough to require an in-house HR function but without the financial resources to pay the going rate for an HR Manager with the necessary level of qualifications and experience.  We have worked with them to recruit someone at a lower grade but with potential for growth either externally or within their staff group.  We have then supported them through coaching, mentoring, and helpline advice to grow their knowledge and skills.

The organisations have all benefited from having a capable person in-house to deal with the implementation of the policies and processes that we devised for them and with the day to day running of HR services, while effectively outsourcing the strategic and HR expert role but ensuring that there is somebody in-house who can do some of the work themselves and therefore keep their consultancy costs as low as possible.

Our customers have reported this as being far more cost effective than trying to hire their own expert.  They have been ‘hiring an HR Director’ only for the bits for which they need this higher level input and guidance.

In one of our customer organisations, employing over 30 staff and 50 volunteers, a new position of HR Manager was created as a development opportunity for the existing Volunteers Manager.  Through the coaching and guidance of Real People staff, she had increased her confidence and skills in the role so that week by week the organisation becomes less reliant on our input.  She is now studying for her MSc in Human Resources Management which will also give her the CPID qualification.  She has said that she feels a great sense of loyalty to the organisation which has given her this fabulous career development opportunity and is unlikely to want to move elsewhere any time soon after achieving qualified status.
